Mercy Mission RBR Troops Brace for Maria Hit

Bermuda troops on a mercy mission to hurricane-devastated Turks & Caicos last night (THURS) braced themselves for a second storm.  Hurricane Maria is expected to impact Grand Turk in the early hours of tomorrow (FRI) – and island soldiers raced against time to prepare themselves and the local population for a second wave of damage.

RBR Troops Get To Work in TCI

Bermuda’s troops got to work as soon as they arrived in hurricane-hit Turks & Caicos, the commander on the ground said yesterday (MON). Major Corey Smalley explained the RBR contingent had helped build a logistics base for the World Food Programme on Providenciales while waiting for an airlift to Grand Turk at the other end of the island chain.

RBR To Fly To Hurricane-Hit Turks & Caicos Tomorrow

Bermuda soldiers will tomorrow (FRI) set off on a mercy mission to the hurricane-devastated Caribbean.  A group of 30 soldierswill leave the island in an RAF Hercules transporter and fly direct to Providenciales in the island chain, then on to Grand Turk to begin relief efforts.

A Royal Bermuda Regiment boxing night scheduled for Thursday has been cancelled.  Organisers were forced to pull the plug on the first of two nights of international military boxing as the Jamaica Defence Force (JDF) fighters were unable to fly out in time due to the after effects of Hurricane Irma.

RBR Band a Hit in Colorado

Military musicians from the Royal Bermuda Regiment have wowed audiences at a major Highland festival and tattoo in Colorado.  And the RBR’s Director of Music Major Dwight Robinson was given the honour of taking the salute on Thursday night at the Long’s Peak Scottish-Irish Highland Festival at Estes Park by event president Dr James Durward.

RBR to Host Regimental Rumble

An international lineup of top military boxers is to be hosted by the Royal Bermuda Regiment later this month. Bermuda’s soldiers and local talent will take on airmen from the UK’s Royal Air Force, soldiers from the Jamaica Defence Force and officer cadets from the US Naval Academy in Maryland in two separate events.

RBR Welcomes Cup Match Chiefs

Cricket teams Somerset and St George’s put aside their rivalry to take the salute after the Royal Bermuda Regiment Band and Corps of Drums performed at Harbour Night in Hamilton.  Somerset Cricket Club president Alfred Maybury and St George’s vice-president Mishael Paynter joined RBR Commanding Officer Lieutenant Colonel David Curley at Wednesday night’s musical extravaganza and Beating the Retreat in Hamilton as his guests ahead of next week’s clash.

Young Tourist Beats the Bermuda Drum

A young musician on vacation on the island paid a dream visit to the Royal Bermuda Regiment’s Warwick Camp to see the Band and Corps of Drums tune up for a performance at Harbour Nights tonight/tomorrow (WEDS). Little James Grassick, aged 9, who plays for the Peebles Burgh Silver Band in Peebles in the Scottish Borders, was invited to see the soldiers practice after a chance meeting in Hamilton with a serving soldier.
