Recruits Win Praise from High-Ranking Visitor

The senior military representative at the British Embassy in Washington has paid a flying visit to the Royal Bermuda Regiment’s latest recruits. According to a press release, Brigadier James Carr-Smith, Military Attaché in the United States capital, said he was impressed by the commitment and standards of the RBR.  Read More....

Royal Bermuda Regiment New Vehicles

Today the Royal Bermuda Regiment was gifted four vehicles from US Northern Command. Col Andy MacLean from USNORTHCOM and US Consul General Mary-Ellen Koenig were on hand to present the vehicles and Acting Governor Ginny Ferson and Minister of National Security Sen Jeff Baron were on hand to receive them. The vehicles have been donated to aid the Regiment with Emergency Measures Organization operations. See Video

 

Regiment Troops Train for America’s Cup

A group of 16 Royal Bermuda Regiment soldiers have completed a tough four-day course in security and search techniques in the run-up to the America’s Cup. Now the squad will use skills learnt from airport and ports security expert John Pears to train other soldiers to keep the Cup a safe and enjoyable experience. Regiment Soldiers Ready for AC35 Security Role

Around 75 soldiers from the Royal Bermuda Regiment yesterday qualified for search and security duties for the upcoming America’s Cup.  The soldiers spent an entire weekend training in search techniques for people and vehicles, as well as undergoing lessons in how to spot potential dangers and illegal goods. Major Emergency Exercise Held In Dockyard

Royal Bermuda Regiment soldiers at the weekend joined forces with other emergency services for a major disaster exercise in the run-up to the America’s Cup. More than 250 personnel took part in a Dockyard disaster simulation designed to test the island’s responses to a major incident involving dozens of deaths and serious injuries. Participants in the exercise, which saw mass casualties treated at the scene and transferred to hospital, were drawn from the RBR, police, fire service, Customs, St John Ambulance, the Red Cross and the King Edward VII Memorial Hospital. Representatives from numerous Caribbean forces have come together this week in Bermuda to discuss information operations. The fourth meeting of the Caribbean Region Information Operations Council brought together representatives from the US, UK, Canada and throughout the Caribbean to share information and tactics to better achieve their goals. Battle of Vimy Ridge Centenary - RG

Bermuda’s vital contribution to a Canadian victory at the Battle of Vimy Ridge 100 years ago was commemorated on Sunday by island historian Dr Edward Harris.  The Bermuda Militia Artillery played a key role in supporting artillery, which cut through German barbed wire, bombarded enemy trenches and allowed Canadian troops to capture the strategic ridge.
